“Transparency and Respect”
Counselling
“You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” –A.A Milne – Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh
Many children have troubles at school and at home. Some children are shy and struggle to make friends. Others have very strong feelings and emotions and struggle to remain calm. Some children have a lot of worries which stop them from doing the things that they want to do. Supportive counselling can help children use their own strengths and resources to deal with the challenges they face.
Hypnotherapy
“The unconscious mind is decidedly simple, unaffected, straightforward and honest. It hasn’t got all of this facade, this veneer of what we call adult culture. It’s rather simple, rather childish It is direct and free. –Milton H. Erikson (Psychiatrist and Hypnotherapist)
Hypnotherapy uses the child’s natural ability to focus attention, imagine and become absorbed in a daydream. Hypnotherapy empowers children to use inner strengths and resources to control aspects of their mind and body that they not may have previously felt able to change. Children can discover helpful emotions and thoughts to replace previously unhelpful ones. Hypnotherapy is a strengths-based therapeutic intervention. Hypnotherapy is playful and taps into child’s natural ability to resolve emotional and behavioural difficulties through play. Children often describe hypnosis as relaxing and fun.
Play Based Therapy
… toys are considered to be children’s words and play is their language.” –Gary Landreth (Child Centred Play Therapist)
Play is the natural language of the child. Children who are not able to express themselves through words can express themselves through play. Incorporating play-based techniques for children is fun, allowing children to enjoy therapy while they develop the skills to overcome challenges. Using play in therapy is both developmentally appropriate and effective.
Family Therapy
“We get together on the basis of our similarities; we grow on the basis of our differences.” -Virginia Satir
Family Therapy is a branch of psychology designed to address any issues affecting the health and functioning of a family. Family Therapy views individuals as part of a greater whole, as part of a complex system of relationships. It understands that our relationships shape and guide us. A family therapist may work with individuals, couples, or multiple family members together, and may incorporate a number of psychological techniques into their work but will always consider how family relationships can be used to support growth and recovery.
Family Therapy can be used to help a family through a difficult period, serious illness, a major transition, or mental health problems in individual family members. Family therapy is especially nurturing for younger children as it acknowledges the importance of parents and siblings in their growth and development.
